Sue Swanson, Prayer beads and custom designed jewelry

Sue Swanson, MDiv, is a teacher and retreat leader from Woodbury, Minnesota who helps people find Sabbath time in their busy lives by teaching them how to practice spiritual patterns together. She calls her work Prayercraft, which is combining craftwork with different patterns of prayer. She is interested in how we can learn to use artistic creativity both individually and in a group to express our faith. Sue teaches classes and retreats exploring spiritual concepts such as: prayer, breath, simplicity, creativity and Sabbath. Her beadwork has been published by Beadwork Magazine and Bead and Button Magazine. Her company, Purple Apple Arts, provides opportunities to explore traditional crafts including textile arts, music, beadwork, and labyrinth walking.

Cindy Mae Swee, Lampworker, Award Winning Jewelry Designer

Cindy’s love of stones and gems began during her childhood while hunting for agates and thompsonites on Lake Superior’s north shore. In the late 1960’s she became hooked on collecting glass beads, as well. She’s found gorgeous and unusual beads in Venice, Paris, Barcelona, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Bangkok, and vintage beads in the Czech Republic and Germany. Swarovski Austrian crystal, keshi pearls, tanzanite, opal, 18K gold, sterling silver and copper are among the materials that round out the collection.

Cindy also makes her own beads and finds mixing colors and making textures and forms to be very seductive. Her lampworked beads are Italian, borosilicate and dichroic glass with gold and silver leaf. These creations greatly enhance the collection from which she draws upon for inspiration.

Her goal as a designer is to create something beautiful, wearable and timeless. She gets joy from this process and fulfillment from sharing it with others.
